ESR provides a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site each year during the tax season for its clients and for the general public. Our VITA site is able to prepare basic tax returns for low-income residents, including Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Education Credit, and Child Tax Credit worksheets. Federal and state tax returns are processed electronically. You will need to bring:
NOTE: We can prepare returns for taxpayers with ITINs,
but these returns must be mailed.
We are further developing this program to continue outreach and education to those who may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, but are not aware that they can receive this credit even if they would not otherwise need to file. As the program expands further, it will also include such things as economic literacy education opportunities, and other activities to bring EITC dollars back into our community as well as into individual households. Once again, ESR is hosting our free income tax assistance service through the overall Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program,WFP). Your taxes are prepared and electronically filed by trained volunteers at a variety of local VITA sites. If you are due a refund, you can usually expect to receive it within ten days of filing. Most simple returns are eligible to be filed at a VITA site, however please check to make sure you qualify.
VITA site volunteers can prepare 1040EZ, 1040A, and many other 1040 returns, including common schedules and tax credits such as education credits, additional child tax credits, credits for childcare, unemployment benefits, and of course the Earned Income Tax Credit. Volunteers CANNOT prepare returns that include any of the following due to liability issues:
